The traditional Roma colours of maroon red with a golden yellow represent the colours of the Eternal City, whilst the official seal of the comuni features the same traditional colours. The God in Roman Catholicism is sybolised by the Gold trim, whilst the maroon represents imperial dignity. In the last few years seen the golden trim and details bhave been substituted by a light orange.
White shorts and black socks are usually worn with the maroon red shirt, however in certain key games the shorts and socks are the same maroon colour as the shirt.
The maroon and gold trim kit was originally worn by Roman Football Club; one of the three clubs who merged in 1927 to form the current incarnation. Roma are frequantly nicknamed "i giallorossi" meaning the yellow-reds. Roma's away kit is traditionally white, with a third kit, currently black, changing colour from time to time.

A popular nickname for the club is "i lupi" which translates to " the wolves", in different forms the animal has always featured on the club's badge throughout their history. The current emblem of the team is the one which was originally used when the club was first founded, portraying the female wolf with the two infant brothers Romulus and Remus, superimposed on a golden yellow and maroon red shield.
The myth from which the club takes their nickname and logo is that the twin sons of Mars and Rhea Silvia, are thrown into the River Tiber by their uncle Amulius where a she-wolf saved the twins and raised them. The two twins eventually took revenge on Amulius, before Romulus killed Remus falling a falling out and thus was made king of a new city named in his honour, Rome. |
